If you previously missed knowing this somehow, I am a dual citizen of the USA and Canada, and I currently reside in Canada. I’ve been here since 2016, and though I love my new home country, there are things in the US that I miss. Pre-pandemic we’d drive over the border occasionally to partake in those things, but since 2020 I’ve only crossed the border once, and that was just a few weeks ago on our trip to NYC. If you missed my post about that trip, you can find it here!
Anyway… the NYC trip was fun, but it was mostly doing touristy stuff, and not really a cross border trip for shopping and dinning. So, we decided to take the long weekend (Canada Day & Independence Day), and head south to Erie to get some retail therapy in shops like Ross Dress For Less, TJ Maxx (it’s called Winners in Canada), Burlington, and Kohls, to name a few. And while we were there we hit up some of my fav fast food restaurants such as Jersey Mike’s and Sonic Dive In. OMG I LOVE Sonic!
This trip wasn’t just about all the shopping (mostly clearance racks, because you know I don’t pay retail!), but a much needed bit of respite from our everyday lives, stresses, and worries. SO… we spent two mornings on the beach at Presque Isle State Park just relaxing. It was lovely just to unwind, soak up some sun, and yes, even catch a few z’s while listening to the waves lap at the shore. It’s not the ocean, but it will do in a pinch, and we really enjoyed the downtime.
And lastly we enjoyed a drive over to Cleveland, thus the photo for this post. Honestly, I didn’t get my camera out much on this trip, because it wasn’t really about that. So, I phoned in most of the images I took, and that’s ok.
It’s a short post this week, but I’ll be back next week talking about our switch from liquid soaps (body wash, hand soap, shampoo & conditioner, laundry detergent) to bars or powdered, and how that’s going for us. So stayed tuned!
Remember to be loving, be kind, be better!
Glad we could find the time to get away for a little bit. As busy as our “schedule” was, I’m happy we found some time to relax.
I enjoyed this as it is how I imagine I’d do things if I lived in Canada. It’s something I’ve said I could imagine doing, but lately the political direction the US is heading in, has made me at least think about it. Though it may not happen I’m glad I can escape across the border every now and then to relax and find peace in Canada. 😁
