Regrettable Purchases

We've all made them

I’ve been using it for about a month now and there are a few things that I have noticed about it that I just don’t like. And another that I am questioning, because how would you every really know? And here are those things…

1. I question whether this thing is actually cleaning the bottle or capable of sanitizing the water. The tiny UV light in the lid is barely strong enough to cast light on a surface, barely. The LED indicator light on the top of the lid is brighter than the UV light. So I question whether it would be enough to do what they say it can do. And how would I or anyone else test that? SO, have we all had the wool pulled over our eyes with this very expensive gadget? I don’t know. To give some context, I’ve had another UV sanitizing gadget (because COVID) and the light was quite bright, in comparison.

2. The bottle is metal, and I tend to be sensitive to metals. Meaning, if I’m drinking out of a water bottle that is metal, I will always taste the metal. I was hoping I could get used to that, but as has always been the case in the past, I simply can’t. I mean hello, no one wants their water to taste like metal.

3. The way the lid works, you have to unscrew it and screw it back on each time you take a drink. I mean, I guess it isn’t a huge deal, but it’s less convenient than other options, so I thought it was worth pointing out.

4. The bottle itself is really heavy, because it’s insulated and the lid is heavy because that’s where the light and battery are. I would have opted for the lighter, cheaper bottle that wasn’t insulated, but couldn’t find it in Canada. Story of my life, eh?!

5. It says it holds 500ml of water, but in no way, shape, or form does it.

So yeah, those are my observations. If I were to have known those things before I bought the bottle, I probably would have passed. But, I didn’t and here I am with an expensive water bottle that I no longer want to use. Not for my day to day water consumption anyway. Perhaps I will take it with me on trips, but honestly the weight of it will probably keep me from doing that as well.

I simply couldn’t recommend it to anyone. There are way cheaper, third party options on Amazon, that probably do just as much, or as is my suspicion, just as little as this bottle does, for a fraction of the cost.
