I Think I'm Done
If my blog is going to be hosted on social media, I may as well be writing on Instagram!
There are so many changes taking place all over the internet these days, and if you’ve followed me for any length of time you know I’m not a fan of most of those changes. In fact, I’ve been trying to significantly reduce my usage of social media, or get rid of it altogether. It’s a work in progress, but I’m getting there.
So… when Substack introduced Chat a few months ago I cringed and stated my opposition vocally. At that time I felt Substack was trying to benefit from the demise of Twitter, and it felt like a step in the wrong direction. A step that the platform didn’t need to take. After all, we are all here to write and read long form content, not to socially chat with one another. It made me question whether this is the place for me to publish my writing.
Then more recently Substack brought out Notes, and this is for sure a grab at those fleeing the tyranny of The Musk. And another step in the wrong direction for this platform, in my opinion. At least it isn’t a direction I want to go.
So yeah, I thought I had finally found a home for my writing, but it looks like it was just another transition for me to make. And that leaves me wondering if I even want to carry on with sharing my thoughts with the world (Ha! and handful of people) or if I should just retire that part of my life as well.
Honestly, I don’t know what I want to do. But what I do know is that if I’m going to be posting my writing on a social media platform (for which Substack is becoming) I may as well do it on Instagram. Yeah, they only give you 2,200 characters, but a lot can be said in that little amount. Just saying’.
So, if you happen to stop by someday and I am not around anymore, just know you can find me over on Instagram. Currently my account there is private and I’m not accepting any follow requests, but if I decide to switch gears, that’ll change.
I feel the same. I don’t really care for the expansion that Substack has done. At first I thought it was interesting, but the more I think of it, the less I want to be involved in it. For me, it’s the long form that I came here for. The rest of the Substack-verse can do what it wants but I’ll just stick to what I came for.
If at some point it starts to interfere with my writing experience then I’ll reconsider.
And I think that is totally okay to change your mind. If it doesn‘t fit your needs or you don‘t like the direction the platform is heading it might be time to move on. It is a journey and one has to enjoy it!
