This is a day late, but…
This past weekend Brandon and I drove to NYC, in what was our first land border crossing in well over two years. It’s the first time in that many years that I’ve stepped foot in my home country and it was both scary and exhilarating. And though I’m sure I’ll post more about what we did in NYC in a follow-up blog, I thought I’d share with you our border crossing experience.
So basically, it was pretty easy peasy. Going into New York they asked if we were vaccinated, and then a few regular border crossing questions and we were through in no time. We got there super early, as it is the best way to do these things, so the wait was very minimal. All in all, a typical experience. They didn’t ask for proof of vaccination, though we had it with us.
The crossing back into Canada took a few minutes longer, because we were there in middle of the day on a Sunday. We had all our information in the ArriveCan app, plus we had the proof of vaccination printouts, just in case. We were asked for neither, and waved right through. So, I’d say it was actually better than normal.
It was a nice trip, but I’m ending it feeling quite sick. Friday evening I started having issues with my right eye. I thought I had something in it, but now wonder if it wasn’t just conjunctivitis, as it is still bothering me slightly. Then on Sunday morning I woke with a sore/burning throat. By the time I got home I was experiencing chills and just extremely fatigued. So, on Monday morning I took a rapid test and it gave me a very faint bottom line, which according to the chart that came with the test kit, indicates a positive test result in those with symptoms. Just to be sure though, I went to my husband’s workplace and took a PCR test. And now I am waiting for the test results.
Needless to say I missed work on Monday and now I sit here on Tuesday morning knowing I’ll be missing work this afternoon as well. Even if this isn’t COVID, I’m too sick to be going in to work. If they call me with a negative result today, I’ll be able to go in and see my doctor to find out what exactly is wrong with me. If it’s not COVID, I’d have to guess strep/pneumonia. As that’s how it feels with the burning throat and my inability to walk across the room without being short of breath. My PulseOx has been 94 for the last two days, so I am obviously having some lung issues. Sigh…
Anyway, whatever it is, I am hoping plenty of rest & fluids will help get me back on my feet soon. It’s summertime and I am all about enjoying what little good weather we have before it is all gone.
Perhaps this down time will give me time to go through my photos from the trip.
Until next time, be loving, be kind, be better!
Crossing The Border & COVID?
It was a lot less intimidating than I expected. Glad the crossings weren’t too stressful.
